A letter from the FBLA Advisors

New Year, New Edition!

What began as an exciting opportunity to create a magazine that would provide real-world experience in marketing and sales while connecting students with Carson City entrepreneurs has now grown into something even bigger. As we launch the second edition of Entrepreneurs in Action, it represents more than just another publication; it marks the growth, sustainability, and continued impact of a project created by and for students.

The success of our first edition showed us that this idea could truly make a difference. Students gained confidence as they stepped into roles as marketers, sales representatives, writers, and collaborators while building meaningful relationships with Carson City business owners. In this edition, our marketing students researched, interviewed, and wrote the feature articles, while our Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students worked directly with local businesses to sell the advertisements that make this publication possible. The second edition is significant because it proves that this project was not a one-time experience, but the beginning of a lasting partnership between our students and the local business community.

This publication continues to push students beyond their comfort zones, strengthening their communication, leadership, and professional skills. Through hands-on experience in sales, marketing, interviewing, and publication production, students gain skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

Thanks to our generous advertisers, sponsors, community members, and readers, the magazine continues to benefit students in many ways. In addition to sales or writing experience the students gain this project helps offset the cost of travel to competitions and provides college scholarships. These profits allow us to move away from traditional fundraising methods like raffle tickets, car washes, or restaurant nights and instead give students authentic professional experience while supporting their future goals. As advisors, we have always found it difficult to see talented students unable to attend competitions due to financial barriers. Through this project, we are working toward ensuring that every student has the opportunity to participate.

We remain deeply grateful to project leaders Jenny Treece and Jon Rogers and sales mentors Robert Hodgson and Tom DuBos, who have continued to support and mentor our students. Their time, expertise, and belief in our students have helped guide them through the sales process and produce a professional publication we are proud to share with the community.

With this second edition, we are not only celebrating what our students have accomplished but also looking forward to the opportunities still ahead. This publication reflects the dedication of our students, the generosity of our community, and the power of learning through real-world experience.

Sincerely,

Cody Downing
