When we were approached with the opportunity to create a magazine—one that would provide real-world experience in marketing and sales while connecting students with Carson City entrepreneurs—we saw more than just a fundraiser. “Entrepreneurs In Action” has transformed our chapter, students, and even us as advisors. This project pushed students beyond their comfort zones, taught them invaluable business skills, and introduced them to local entrepreneurs whose stories have impacted us in ways we never imagined.

Thanks to our generous advertisers and sponsors, profits from the magazine will benefit students in two ways: help defer the cost of travel for competitions and provide college scholarships. These profits replace our historical year-long battle to raise funds using small fundraisers like selling raffle tickets, organizing car washes, or planning restaurant nights that yielded only a fraction of what was needed. As advisors, it was always heartbreaking to see talented students unable to attend competitions due to cost. We will now be able to provide barrier-free support to our students.

We are deeply grateful to Jenny Treece of “Carson Now” and community members Jon Rogers and Robert Hodgson, who spent countless hours mentoring our students, coaching them through the sales process, and helping them produce a professional publication. Their dedication and belief in our students made this project possible. This magazine has changed us—as a chapter, as individuals, and as advisors—and we could not be more thankful.

To “Carson Now,” thank you for believing in this project and giving our students a platform to showcase their hard work. We hope this is just the beginning of a long, meaningful partnership.

Sincerely,

Cody Downing
